Marathon Update 8

Wow, what a world of difference a couple of hours of sleep makes. I think I slept 3 hours, and feel sooo much better. People are way less irritating than they were.

The marathon's going fairly well. I think the scores are in the 160's now. Most people seems like they have een having a good time, and all the organizers are looking forward to the wrap party at Ceili's now. The wrap party is going to be a gong show. It always is, and no wonder when 10 people who have had an average of 3 hours of sleep in the past 30 hours congregate and decide to get their drink on.

Marathon Update 7

Wow, super super super tired. Just played from 3am till 6am. My legs hurt!!! I did however have the pleasure of getting a Tim horton's breakfast sandwich. It was fairly delicious. All I can think about right now is how bad I need to shower and sleep. Imay make a play for doing both those things right now, or at least in the next half hour. It is 7:30 am and I have officially been here and awake....

2Pm till midnight is 10
midnight till 7am is 7

17 and a half hours. That's a double shift, I prob get two hours sleep, and be back at it right again.

Fun fun fun!!!

Marathon Update 6

Eyes are getting sleepy!!!

Almost time to play though. That's kind of exciting. The effing room I'm in is a little pressure cooker. So bloody hot! It's aking me much more grumpy than I need to be.

Jake hurry up and show up with a little nicotine treat!!

Marathon Update #5

It's official, I'm at the stage where I start to get annoyed with other people. It's also the point in the evening where it becomes almost exclusively soccer marathon people at the soccer center.

It gets a bit quieter, as there is only the odd other practice in the facility. Soo, it will be dead quiet other than the occasinal outburst from our little field.

That is, until the 3am game. We're loud and obnoxious! And then, the dreaded morning.

Nobody will have slept, we all will be getting ridiculously tired, and then, at the worst possible point, thousands of little kids will pile in to the soccer centre for their morning games. The little kids aren't the worst part. It's the ridiculous amount of family and friends that come out to watch.

Hold on. It's beer time.
Unfortunately it's gonna have to be with Carlos. On the other hand, I do get to have one with Rick Antl. Kind of cancels out....

Soccer Marathon Update 4

Just after 9pm,

Mads is once again disrobing in front of me. He just finished another game. They won 3-2. Woohoo for ballistic.
Makes up for losing the first one I guess.

Oh, quick update on the 7pm - 8pm game, Teri Scored! Beginners luck no doubt.

Oh ya, by the way, sitting in a 10 by 20 room licks nuts.

Antl just showed up. Bastard didn't bring any beer though. Slacker... Last year he showed up with a cube of pilsner, this year, nothing....

You just can't get good help these days.

Soccer Marathon update 3.

Mads just changed for the third time. I think he's played two actual games and spent the rest of the day up at the front registration desk. Funny thing is, both times he put on different uniforms. Ladies, beware me thinks there's a two timer amongst us.

Soccer Marathon Update 2

7:30pm, Mark's here now.

There's a pretty funny game going on down on the field. A bunch of the grab life by the balls dodgeball team is playing what appears to be their introductory game of soccer. They're actually playing against a bunch of people that play soccer. (I'm pretty sure it's Mike's sister's soccer team) So considreing, they're doing pretty well.

Last I checked, the score was 22-22 and Bosch was making up games to amuse himself. I bet by 11:00pm the boy has gone insane.

30 Hour Soccer Marathon Begins

So, it begins.

Our months of preparation have come to an end, and the event has begun.

Our annual soccer marathon, to support the fight against cancer has just kicked off.

This years theme;

Got Balls? Play Soccer! It's kind of a spin on the kick cancer slogan we have had for the past two years, and will get much more funny once we manage to strike the S at the end of "got balls" off of Mike's T-Shirt.

The Event is off, it's 4:00 pm. Nothing to report

Soccer Marathon Update

Just a quick note to show you where cash from previous soccer marathon's has gone.

This is an exert from the official website for the Soccer Marathon.

The Apheresis unit at the Calgary Foothills hospital not only provides its patients with Apheresis, it also provides the Children’s Hospital with Apheresis services. In fact, patients from around Canada are flown to Calgary specifically for these procedures. The whole unit originally existed in a room no bigger than a double patient room of an average patient care unit, with a few exceptions. This room contained three beds, three Apheresis machines, a secretary’s desk, two computer stations, a filing area, a medical storage area, a washroom, lockers, an interview area, and four regular staff members. The quarters were so tight that there was hardly room for patients or donors to have a family member or friend keep them company for the process, which can take up to eight hours per day or more depending on the procedure. The lack of privacy was an issue for the physician attempting to discuss patient issues in confidence. Apheresis patients are often immunosuppressed and could be vulnerable to infection in quarters such as those in this type of space.

In part, due to the awareness our event raised about the unique needs of the Apheresis unit - the Apheresis unit was approved for complete renovations and are now successfully moved into a brand new location at the Foothills Hospital; built specifically to suit its needs. There are now more beds for patients, more privacy for those who are immunosuppressed, and one more Photopheresis machine to double the load of patients receiving help from Photopheresis procedures!

Now go sign up to play, volunteer, or contact them about hooking them up with some prizes.

Do it!

Dodgeball Round up

Team short shorts is coming in to their own. The match was a spirited affair, but after the valuable experience gained from last week's warm up match, the twinkie parade that stood across the gymnasium from the menacingly clad team short shorts must have immediately known they were in for a long night.

A couple of regulars were missing from Grab life by the balls line-up, however the last minute replacements stepped in and performed more than admirably. Talk in the locker room, post battle, was centered around how well the noobs played and how grateful the team was to have them out.

Special shout outs go to Teri Watch these balls Reimer, and Tara Bob hit him back Meloney who both stepped up and started eliminating players from the other team. Looks like a week of HJ's for their BF's bulked up their throwing arms.

Plays of the day....

Teri and Marty combining on the Bait and Switch for a final kill,

and Jeff and Marty combining for a Peek a boo sky launch for a near miss.

Final score somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 to 3 for the good guys.

Don't forget your short shorts for next Wed.

I say this kid gets hit but is saved by the no head shots rule. Panzy! By the way, Jeff you're out ya head hunter!
